Globally Sourced is the debut EP from long time DJ on the London disco, house and world music circuit, Soundsmith. Drawing inspiration from far and wide Hedley Smith showcases some of the most infectious grooves he’s come across over the years. Spanning the four corners of the planet, these tasty tropical heaters are made for adding a touch of exotic flavour to any mix.
________
Review from Juno Records:
"Having mostly stuck to digital-only releases since launching last year, The Disco Express has a swathe of 12" singles dropping this month. The first comes from long-time crew member Southsmith (real name Hedley Smith), who marks his vinyl debut with a four-track collection of beefed-up re-edits of tropical disco treats - some with subtle new instrumental elements.
There's plenty to enjoy throughout, from the Indian disco-boogie extravaganza that is 'Disco Dancer' - all squelchy bass, squealing horns and Bollywood vocals - and the Afro-disco heaviness of 'Aye-Oh', to the Caribbean disco-goes-sparkly-nu-disco flex of 'Rise Again'. As vinyl debuts go, Globally Sourced is genuinely impressive"
________
Getting the EP under way is seminal track Keep Moving. Synth laden and bass heavy this track is a modern interpretation of the feelings conjured up in late 70s discotheque.
Following suit, Aye Oh
turns up the heat up with a Latin-inspired funk filled beat. Complete with chanting vocals it's a playful upbeat number filled with exuberance and charisma.
Channeling the sounds of Bollywood disco, Disco Dancer
is a straight up dance floor heater. Fuelled by an underrated source of musical joy Soundsmith injects his own modern take utilising gritty analogue bass and synths.
Neatly tying together the Globally Sourced EP is Rise Again, an afro-funk inspired cut. Dubbed out vocals layered over 80’s style synth lines are intertwined with melancholy breakdowns.
